A team of GIBH representatives visits Gandhi Memorial Hospital (GMH), in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

The visit took place in early August of 2016. Members of the team included Yonas Woldetsadik, Dr. Biruh Workeneh, MD, Karen Moise, RN, Rachael Tilley, and Daniel Getachew. The purpose of the visit was to deliver medical equipment, assess needs, and discuss GIBH’s quality improvement plan with the GMH leadership, officials from the Ministry of Health, and the Addis Ababa Health Bureau. The team also had an opportunity to meet with faculty in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology from the Addis Ababa University Medical School.

 

The GIBH team toured GMH and held discussions with Sr. Heiwot Gebermicahel, CEO, and Dr. Dereje Alemayhu, Medical Director, of the GMH. Mrs. Karen Moise, a maternal care nurse with over 30 years of experience conducted an assessment using a survey questionnaire created jointly with Dr. Kenneth J. Moise, an obstetrician, and gynecologist and a leader in fetal surgery. The assessment will help to develop a plan for quality improvement. Subsequently, the team met with Ato Girma Ashenafi, Head of Addis Ababa Health Bureau, which overseas GMH and other government hospitals
in Addis Ababa.
