by | May 15, 2014

GIBH has received multiple donations of large quantities of medical supplies. The donors were the Memorial Hermann Hospital at the Texas Medical Center and Owens & Minor, a leading distributor of medical and surgical supplies.

The donations included various items such as blood pressure cuffs, isolation gowns, exam gloves, Cavi-Wipes, suction canisters, surgical masks, isolation masks, adult, pediatric, and infant resuscitators, IV catheters, pediatric Incentive Spirometers, endotracheal tubes, culture tubes, pulse ox probes, feeding tubes, and many other miscellaneous items.

The medical supplies, along with other medical equipment, will be a component during the execution of projects comprising of needs assessment, pilot projects, or training and teaching workshops to the Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Gandhi Memorial Hospital is the only hospital exclusively serving pregnant women in Ethiopia. GIBH is in the process of implementing a pilot project involving quality improvement in maternal and newborn care at this Hospital. GIBH plans to scale up the project after it benchmarks best practices in this resource-limited setting.

In light of its proposed projects, GIBH would like to thank Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and Owens & Minor for their generous donations of medical supplies and looks forward to their continued partnership.
