Global Initiative for Better Health, Inc. (GIBH) recently sponsored Dr. Ashebir Getachew from Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to attend the Clinical and Scientific Meeting of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) held at the Austin Convention Center from April 27 to 30, 2018, in Austin, Texas.
Dr. Ashebir is an Obstetrician and Gynecologist who has been working at Gandhi Memorial Hospital (GMH) since 1996. GMH is the only public regional university-affiliated maternity hospital in Ethiopia. The ACOG annual conference, where leading experts in obstetrics and gynecology from all over the world converge once a year, is a widely acclaimed learning venue that offered Dr. Ashebir an exceptional opportunity for networking and both reviewing the fundamentals of and learning the latest advances in Ob-Gyn, including current and future medical and surgical innovations in health care of women, for example, pros and cons of surgical versus non-surgical treatment of fibroids, and whether nitrous oxide should be routinely offered to women in labor. We believe as the result of his attendance at this conference that Dr. Ashebir will be able to initiate new programs and projects that would contribute to the improvement of quality of care at Gandhi Memorial Hospital. Post-conference brain-storming discussion between Dr. Ashebir and GIBH board members touched on some working ideas. This event supports GIBH’s vision of enabling stakeholders at GMH to achieve their goals and objectives.
